Admiral Baze was a LCDR at HSL-47 when I was there on my first sea tour. He was OIC of one of the OIF dets that were deployed when I showed up. Dets were somewhat cliquish so we did not interact much, but he was very well respected. He took good care of his folks. When I was aide to the Naval Inspector General in the late '70's, the IG was a Rear Admiral, lower half. It was very hard for him to review senior commands like AirPac if the incumbent was a "flamer." I don't know when the job became a three star billet, but it was overdue whenever it happened. When I was on the CincPacFlt staff in the late 80’s, we did the IG Inspections of AirPac. I believe it was a two week process. The PacFleet IG was a one star, who took SMEs from the CPF staff. We had no issues with the three-star. Terry Daugherty
