It seems prudent to me to have at least some of the new Carriers planned to use steam/hydraulics (proven) until the alternatives are battle tested enough to make them all that way. I think NAWCAD Lakehurst has been working EMALS for 40+ years and the base has in ground launch systems going back to the earliest carriers. This isn’t new technology.
